Labs for Heart, Liver, & Pancreas

Heart enzymes:
troponin I <0.3 ng/dL

Troponin is the gold standard for MI screening.  Just remember that it takes up to 12-24 hours to show up, so, you'll have to run multiple labs with freshly drawn blood about once every 7 hours.

Liver (enzyme) Function Test:
ALT 8-20 units/L
AST 5-40 units/L
ALP 42-128 units/L
Bilirubin total 0.1-1.0 mg/dL
                direct 0.1-0.3 mg/dL
                indirect 0.1-1.0 mg/dL
Albumin 3.5-5 g/dL

Normally, liver enzymes are located inside of the cells, not excreted out of the cells.  If the liver enzyme levels are elevated, then that means that the liver cells are being damaged, releasing excess pancreatic enzymes

Pancreas enzymes:
amylase 56-90 IU/L
lipase 0-110 units/L

Elevated pancreas enzymes indicates pancreatitis.  Often this is caused by a blocked bile duct.
