Note to Self: Pediatrics A

  • Children who have juvenile idiopathic arthritis should sleep on a firm mattress to enhance comfort and rest.  Should all arthritic patients sleep on a firm mattress?
  • What's impetigo?  The bacteria that causes impetigo lives right below the crust of the lesion.  Therefore, the crust must be softened in order to facilitate removal and make it possible to treat the lesion topically.

  • Bed rest is necessary in patients with strep throat to prevent cardiac damage.
  • What is Bryant traction?  Bryant traction is a 90 degree skin traction with the child's buttock raised slightly off the bed.  It's skin traction.  Stay supine.  No position changes.
